Rain likely in several parts of Bangladesh

Rain is likely to occur in several parts of Bangladesh over the next 24 hours from 9am today, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

ÒLight to moderate rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka and Sylhet divisions,Ó said a Met office bulletin issued this morning.

Moderately heavy rainfall may also occur at places across the country, it said.

A mild heatwave is sweeping over Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and the districts of Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur, Gopalgonj, Kishoreganj, Narayanganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, Khulna, Jashore and Chuadanga. The heatwave may abate from many places, the bulletin said.

Day temperatures may fall slightly, while night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged across the country.

The highest temperature on Monday was recorded at 37.5 degrees Celsius in Sreemangal, while todayÕs lowest temperature was 22.5 degrees Celsius in Narayanganj. In the 24 hours until 6am today, the highest rainfall of 30 millimetres was recorded in Mongla.

In Dhaka, the sun will set at 5:55pm today and rise at 5:48am tomorrow.
